Cybersecurity for State Leaders, a nationwide initiative led by the National Cybersecurity Center (NCC) and supported by Google, will host a virtual briefing with South Carolina officials on Wednesday, October 13th at 11:00AM EST. The initiative aims to bring best practices in cybersecurity to state lawmakers and their staff in all 50 states — with both live virtual events and a free, executive text message course available at any time. The South Carolina Briefing will include SC specific information from CyberSC and SLED.
Cybersecurity is more important than ever. Elected officials face a growing number of challenges and threats from bad actors online. That is why it is necessary to ensure legislators are well versed on the ways in which they can protect themselves from cyber attacks.
Bad actors seek to compromise the U.S.’s democratic institutions through a wide array of potential cyber attacks. By training state lawmakers, this initiative takes training directly to the frontlines of our democracy and ensures legislators are well versed on the threat environment as well as how to mitigate and protect against potential attacks.
Lawmakers and their staff will have the opportunity to hear from national experts on a variety of cybersecurity issues, and will learn practical tools to start using immediately to stay cyber-safe.
Those who successfully complete the briefing demonstrate their commitment to improving the cybersecurity of their state, and defending the democratic institutions that they serve.
